Effect of Modifiers on the Microstructure of Rapidly Solidified AlSi10Mg Alloy

Abstract In this work, melt-spun ribbons of AlSi10Mg added with modifiers (Er, Sr, or nano-TiB 2 ) were produced to investigate the combined effect modification and rapid solidification on eutectic Si. The resulting microstructures are more isotropic in comparison that base alloy affecting mechanical properties alloys. Si morphology supersaturation caused by investigated microscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry. Compared AlSi10Mg, network is finer less continuous when Er Sr added, disrupted rounded crystals dispersed matrix adding . level decreases order Er–nano-TiB –Sr. A transition from columnar Al grains at wheel side equiaxed air was found unmodified ribbon one containing means electron backscattered diffraction. Er- Sr-modified display constant size throughout their thickness. average hardness obtained nano-indentation tests lower than AlSi10Mg. causes drop but provides properties.
